Eagle pose for a beautiful clear blue sky!
Good for focus, concentration and stability!
Strengthen the muscles and loosens the joints too!
Always start by finding your ground before a balance pose.
Twist only as far as comfortable.
Note that arms and legs are twisted in a different direction.
Hold as long as you are relaxed and not hurting in any way. Always delicious!
Let me know how you enjoyed it...
Namaste,

GOLDEN MILK

Picture
A traditional ayurvedic drink to support the immune system, help with inflammation such as arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis...
1/4 cup Turmeric
Almond oil or ghee
Milk from cow, almond or coconut
Honey or mapple syrup
Make a turmeric base:
Combine the turmeric with 1/2 cup water in a saucepan.
Bring to a boil, stir as you lower the heat and simmer until the mixture turns into a thick paste. Cool and scoop into a glass jar and store in the fridge if needed .
To use
:
To make one serving, combine 1/2 to 1 tsp turmeric paste, 1 tsp almond oil or ghee to one cup of warm milk. Add honey or apple syrup if desired.
For Kapha unbalances this a little heavy so to make it lighter use goat milk or almond milk, add cinnamon and a pinch of black pepper and/or cayenne and/or ginger powder. only a little bit of honey should be used and I would commit the ghee.
For Pitta unbalances coconut milk is recommended.

This is a good way to take herbs such as ashwaganda and astragalus.
Feel free to be creative.....

                                    ENJOY!

HONEY

11/12/2015

Honey!
Why we need to care for our bees and eat their gifts!

“Honey originates from flowers having different tastes and potencies. Honey is considered a catalyst substance, carrying the properties of plants and herbs added to it.” – Ancient Wisdom

The healing property to honey is due to the fact that it has an anti bacterial, anti fungal and anti inflammatory property. The ancient Egyptians used honey as an embalming fluid and for dressing wounds.
Ayurveda considers honey has one of nature's greatest gift because of its nutrition value but also its medicinal properties.
The sugars in honey are glucose, fructose and sucrose, all naturally occurring.  Honey contains amino acids, minerals, enzymes fatty acids and carbohydrates....All good but as long as the honey is raw and not heated above 105 degrees fahrenheit...so don't cook it!
Honey is a great source of heat and energy and easily digested...enters the blood stream rapidly because of its sugars.
A spoon of honey mixed with the juice of half a lemon  in a glass of warm water taken first thing in the morning is a good remedy for constipation and hyperacidity.
Ayurveda considers honey as a good help in building hemoglobins in the case of anemia because of its iron, copper and manganese content.
Honey can be used externally over wounds and sores. It sooth the pain and acts as an antiseptic. It is great over pimples! cures them overnight! Try it!
Honey soothes dry cough. Mix 2 tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice with on tablespoon of honey. Heat very gently and take one tsp every hour as needed. You may add some grated ginger too!
Few things to not do with honey: should not be mixed with an equal amount of ghee according to Ayurveda and not given to babies according to western medicine.

This is one of my favorite spring recipes!
It is great for lunch or dinner or both if your are like me and don't mind eating something delicious twice a day!
You will need a bunch of asparagus, one stalk of rhubarb and as many shiitake as you like ....
Slice the asparagus stalks in 1/4 inches thickness, keeping the flowering end on the side.
Slice the rhubarb the same way and slice your mushrooms.
warm up some olive oil in a cast iron pan and sautée spices like cumin seeds and mustard seeds or any kind of spices that speaks to you or is recommended for your dosha unbalances.

Add the asparagus, saute for few minutes then add the rhubarb and then the shitake mushrooms. Sprinkle some salt and pepper to your liking. When shitakes are cooked add the asparagus florets for another few minutes.
Voila! Your meal is done! Light a candle for dinner, give thanks for another beautiful day on earth and enjoy!

Note that you can make this with whatever is seasonal. Keep to 3 different vegetables at the most. With summer asparagus are ending but green are still in like radicchios...or sugar snaps etc.....

Also, feel free to add cilantro (great for pitta) or parsley.....
